Has anyone ever taken a family trip to Fatima? We have six months left in the UK and would love to go to Fatima before we leave, but with three kids finding a hotel can be difficult. Most will not accommodate us all in one room (unless we lie about ages or number of children). I have done google searches for apartments/guesthouses, but nothing has turned up. So I am turning to the online Catholic community....any suggestions?

I wish I could say I had been there but unfortunately I have not.

The only thing that I know about is a friend who was traveling with her husband in Germany stayed in some convents for little or nothing. They also had a priest traveling with them. I do not know if this is common but it would be worth checking out.
I went to Fatima several years ago with 2 kids. We stayed in Coimbra, Portugal, which is a short drive away (maybe 2 hours, I can't remember). We stayed at a chain hotel, again I can't remember the name, but we had to get adjoining rooms though it did come with a free breakfast. We opened the adjoining rooms and blocked the doorway to the hall from the kids room with the luggage we had. I felt safe despite technically being in a different room from the kids. I got the hotel from Rick Steve's guidebook for Coimbra. It is very difficult to get hotel rooms even for 2 kids in Europe, and I know 3 is even harder. I now have 4 and it is almost impossible, so when we get up the nerve and money to go to Europe with them all, we will probably have to get an apartment.
We went to Fatima with our 5 year old daughter. We stayed in hotel on the seaside, which is very nice btw, rented a car and spend one day in Fatima. It was not Sunday, was quet and nice.
We actually combined it with a trip to the Algarve, using one of those great holiday deals they have here... was about 500 euro for all of us for the week with flights and a self-catering appartment. The bus to Fatima was 3 hours and a little warm and long, but the kids held up well.

You might also think about Knock... a bit closer and you could even drive... always a bit easier with little ones. There's tons of B&Bs and a nice hotel in town that definitely caters to families.
