Okay, how do you make the most of this awesome sacrament? I feel that I still have a great deal of maturing to do in this area. Please, give me your tips and techniques. :-)
I try to make sure that I can go at a time when I don't have my children with me at all. That way I can really have some quiet reflection time before I go. Then I do a through examination of conscience. Some churches will provide one for you to look over but if you want to prepare ahead of time there are a bunch of good ones on the internet if you just search for examination of conscience.

The Apostolate for Family Consecration has an awesome resource.. Louis DeMontfort's Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. It has quite a few examination of conscience reviews. I totally recommend it and you definitely need some tome to prepare for a good confession.
We all want to make the most of this sacrament. I find that a sheet with an examination of conscience is a tremendous help when I’m preparing for confession. However, if you’re looking for a something more, we have some books on penance. You may find “How to Make a Good Confession” helpful.
