For the dinners: Lasagna is always so yummy. For the fund raising: Maybe your local Knights of Columbus can help you? You could host a garage sale or sell food (a bake sale, breakfast, lunch or dinner).

A Request for Prayers and Ideas

Prayer Request: A little girl in my parish is set to undergo her 4th open heart surgery on Nov. 18th. Breckyn was diagnosed with 3 different heart defects at 5 weeks old. By 18mos old she had multiple heart catherizations and 3 open heart surgeries. Her heart conditions has caused pulmonary issues as well. Her heart is enlarged and beating so hard that it has crushed her left lung. Long story short she still has multiple problems and needs another surgery. She has multiple aneurisms in the…See More

Seeking Catholic School Principal

I am on the School Council of my children's Catholic School. We are looking for a principal for the 2010-2011 school year (and beyond of course). It is a small pre-K through 12th school in rural Kansas but is growing. We have been making various steps to secure the school's financial future through endowments and have been strengthening the school's Catholic authenticity and identity. We are in the process of implementing a Great Books, Classical type of curriculum and are hoping to find a…See More

Great Books Curriculum

I am currently on the school council at my children's Catholic school. We are looking at converting to something similar to a Great Books/Classical curriculum. One that focuses on the relationship between faith and reason, that they don't contradict each other. I know this is a foundation for many who homeschool but we are wondering how to do this with an existing Pre-k-12 school. How do you revamp a curriculum and train teachers? Anyone have any experience with this?

Year for Priests Faith Folder Dedication in Memory of Ryan Barrett

Thumbnail
Many of you are probably familiar with Mary Ellen Barrett's work through blogs such as Tales from the Bonny Blue House, O Night Divine, etc. Many of you are likely also aware of the sad loss of their son, Ryan, last month. The story of this family's tragic loss and witness to the faith is inspiring. Ryan had a strong faith and a love for religious life. Many wondered if this young, autistic boy might have a special calling to the priesthood. I think he did and it is being lived out now. God's…See More

Shred a couple very finely and throw them into your favorite muffin or cookie recipe. Really. Chocolate chip zucchini cookies are a hit with our family of 9.

Seeking Mary's Intercession for Our Children

...

I know so many of you have dealt with sick kids and worse situations. And there are so many families that deal with ongoing medical issues every day. While this wasn't our first hospitalization or emergency, it was our scariest and most difficult. At the same time, it has been our most inspiring. Without taking up too much space or monopolizing your computer time I wanted to share a witness to the power of the Rosary and the intercession of our Blessed Mother.

Prayer for Employment

May we all pray together for the unemployed and all those struggling to make ends meet during this difficult economic time. It can be very difficult to walk the faith in the work force and it can ultimately cost one their job. May we all embrace our crosses just as Christ embraced His. And so, if you are without employment in your family, know that you are not alone and that the Meyer household is praying for you.

Good morning,
I just read your blog post about how you prayed the Rosary through your daughter's PICC procedure. Oh I can so understand!! We've been through a bunch of medical situations and other scary things with our kids. Today I felt like I was under attack from the time I woke up this morning. My daughter was crying from pain in her ears and my little boy, who is autistic, would not put his clothes on and was hollering. So reading your blog today was a comfort! Thank God that Mary is here to help us as Mothers. We need her so much.

God bless you and I pray Clare will be all well soon!! Thanks for sharing.

I am in Kansas also. As someone who has been a volunteer for the Midwest Catholic Family Conference since the beginning (in 1999), I would like to invite everyone to the next one. Aug 7 - 9 in Wichita - it's a very special family blessing!
